📖 History of US Involvement in Syria

U.S. involvement in Syria is a case study in incoherent policy. The CIA armed rebels who fought alongside al-Qaeda affiliates. The military fought ISIS while those same rebels fought Assad. Obama drew a "red line" on chemical weapons, then didn't enforce it. Trump bombed Assad, armed the Kurds, then abandoned them to Turkey. Approximately 900 U.S. troops remain in Syria without authorization, controlling a third of the country and its oil fields.
